Rosacea
About Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic, non-contagious inflammatory skin condition, which affects approximately 2-10% of adults. The condition is characterized by redness and flushing of the face, in particular, the cheeks, nose, and forehead. Symptoms are caused by the dilation of the surface blood vessels (capillaries) known as telangiectasia. As the condition progresses, patients may also develop pimple-like bumps, burning, stinging or dryness, swelling of the cheeks and nose and/or redness of the eyes. Rosacea can affect both males and females and typically appears between the ages of 30-50.
Rosacea Causes
The cause of rosacea is currently unknown; however, it is believed to be associated with the Demodex folliculorum mite, a microscopic creature that can inhabit the pores of the skin. There are also several well-recognized triggers of rosacea including heat, alcohol, spicy foods, caffeine, topical irritants, sunburn, stress, and hormonal fluctuations.
Rosacea Treatment
Conventional treatments may involve antibiotics, laser surgery or surgery in severe cases.
Psoriasis Eczema Clinic treatments focus on addressing triggers and symptoms of rosacea. Topical creams help to treat symptoms from the outside, whilst addressing the dietary and lifestyle triggers helps to treat symptoms from the inside. If you would like to, book a consultation for your rosacea.
